Assignment 3: Glamour Codes Practice

• OBJECTIVE: I will be able to read the provided scenarios and identify the Glamour Code (or codes present)

Open the file, save in your H Drive under Media, Complete as instructed. Email it to ferrer01@southredford.net when done.

Assignment 2: How do you feel about Alcohol/Tobacco Advertising? (writing)

• OBJECTIVE: Students will write an opinion based essay using facts and statements from the research

This assignment is going to require you to use the information you found to build your Storify to form a set opinion on your topic. It does not matter if you agree or disagree but you must support what you are stating. This is an INDIVIDUAL project. The essay MUST:

• Clearly state your opinion on your topic (ex: "I believe ".)
• You must give three statements/quotes/examples of why you believe this (ex: "Based on the YouTube video by _ I think ___)
  • These examples should come from your Storify
• Your essay must be at least 250 words in length (it can be more)
• It should use correct grammar and spelling.
• If you worked with someone on the research, you each must do your own opinion essay but you will need to share the research. The easiest way to do this is to email your partner the link to your Storify so they can access the information you found.

To Turn it in:

• Open your essay (or get your essay if you hand wrote it)
• Highlight your opinion statement in PINK
• Highlight your three supporting reasoning in YELLOW
• Once that is done, save it and email it as an attachment to Mrs. Ferris (ferrer01@southredford.net)
  • YOU MUST have the highlighting completed to get full credit.
  • Here is a video on how to highlight in Word if you are unsure

Assignment 1: The Impact of Advertising on Alcohol/Tobacco Use (research)

• OBJECTIVE: Students will gather evidence about advertising and the impact on Alcohol/Tobacco use and use that evidence to form an opinion that can be supported (using Storify)

Once you have create a Storify account, decide if you want to complete this project alone or with ONE other person.

• See Mrs. Ferris for your Topic
• Use Storify to create a Story on your topic
  • You will need to come up with
    • Headline/Title for your topic (summarize-remember headlines grab your attention)
    • Description (what is your topic about)
    • Sources that should evidence or education about your topic.
      • You need a MINIMUM of 12 sources (only 2 maybe videos)
      • Make sure to use the text area to describe what you are adding into your story and why it is important
    • Your research should NOT show your opinion but should educate someone about your topic so they can form an opinion
    • If you want to use Twitter/Facebook for comments it has to be done outside of school but this is NOT a requirement
  • Once you are done, you will email Mrs. Ferris (ferrer01@southredford.net) a link to your Storify by the end of class on Wednesday.
